I really enjoy our FBA meet the owner events. It’s a chance to come face to face with a family business and see how they work operationally. Our family business owners open their doors with pride, and it’s such a fantastic way to learn from the ground up what makes them tick.  Last year we visited Hall of Fame winner, Packer Leather, and this year we stepped into the world of Ullrich Aluminium on the Gold Coast, and toasted with low carb beer at the Burleigh Brewing Company.  Who would have thought beer could taste so good! Look out for our meet the owner visits in 2017, as they do sell out quickly.

We have had a full month at FBA QLD in October, with our first Directors Course for many years taking place at Hillstone St Lucia on October 12 and 13, facilitated by James Beck – and our last conversation series event, sponsored by Grant Thornton, gave us an opportunity to hear the 2016 young Australians of the year tell their story.  The energy of these young men in their early 20’s was inspiring, and with their parents joining the Orange Sky Laundry business, they are now well and truly entrenched in the world of family business.

Don’t forget our final event of the year is the Hall of Fame at the Summit restaurant – this is where we will announce our inductee for 2016, so if you would like to book please do so via the FBA website.

I usually sign off with “until next time”, but sadly this will be my last post as the State Manager for FBA QLD. I have been offered a fantastic position managing partnerships for a hospital foundation close to home, and I’m really looking forward to this new chapter in my career.  The FBA membership has been so open and welcoming to me, and I thank you.

All the best
