It’s chocolate month. Sigh! I was reminded of this when I saw the SBS Insight program on family business last month ( click here to view) – it was a warm reminder of FBA’s family business royalty in the Darrell Lea story. Darrell Lea was synonymous with Easter and Christmas during my childhood. The late Jason Lea was one of FBA’s founding Chairmen and had a profound effect on the lives of many of his colleagues – as well as his business and family. The FBA Entrepreneurship Award was established in his honour and recognises an individual with strong entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence in family business best practice. The recipient demonstrates a ‘can do’ attitude and personifies the attributes Jason Lea held dear.

The SBS program also featured some of our WA members in the Bailey family, who were set as an example of best practice for family business planning and governance. All at FBA were proud to have played a part in their success, as we are with all our members. Nothing better for us than to see members gaining recognition for their dedication and hard work. I am also proud of the calibre of Accredited Advisers that choose to work with FBA and support family businesses. Rarely have I seen a group of such dedicated professionals who operate with strict values and respect for their clients. It is an honour for me to work with them and I warmly encourage members to get to know the Accredited Adviser community at every opportunity. You never know when you might need some advice and it is best to be able to call on someone you know and trust.

Until next month,
