As we near the end of 2017, we start to plan for 2018 and bring to light the changes at FBA which everyone has been waiting on.  As the QLD State Manager I am excited with the initatives FBA are bringing to the table including, a new Advisor accreditation, Member advisor platform (search engine for Family Businesses), Family Owned emblem campaign and the many conversations and education sessions which will keep the communications within the family.

As I have mentioned before I am a part of the QLD Government Small Business Round Table discussions where each industry association meets quarterly to discuss relevant concerns from their sector.  The department is working hard for small to medium based businesses and also federally with the Family Enterprise Ombudsman, Kate Carnell on topics such as:

  • Access to information
  • Multi level pay scales/ awards
  • Electricity pricing
  • State base taxes
  • Government regulations
  • Outdated regulations
  • Business owner mental health
  • Disruption
  • Shared economies

This last meeting saw an update on the QLD Procurement Policy, and the focus of “Backing Queensland Jobs” by going local.  There is a wealth of information on the QLD Government website, including the Governments pipeline of work.

Policy: www.qld.gov.au/procurementstrategy

Pipeline: www.forgov.qld.gov.au/opportunities-suppliers

Those wishing to tender for work with the QLD Government can review the pipeline and look at planning their capabilities.  Those wishing to tender much be registered on QTenders and follow the tender process.

If you have anything you would like me to rase at these meetings please feel free to let me know.  The next will be February 7.

Help me get to know you and your business, if you have had any exciting news or received awards or good publicity share the love by sending it through, email fbaqld@fambiz.org.au.    If you know of any families in business don’t forget to tell them about FBA, or better yet bring them along to the next event.
